I currently work as a BT with Family Insight, Newport News Virginia. I have been trained in ABA principles in order to conduct in-home ABA sessions with children diagnosed with Autism. I work under the supervision of a BCBA and I have weekly supervision sessions to discuss each client. In supervision, we cover the progress, challenges, data, and graphs for each individual client and each individual goal. Every client has individualized goals according to their needs, deficits and parent’s requests. Each domain has at least one goal and each goal might have a sub-goal. Each goal has a method of measurement, required baseline, progress and pre-requisites. This means you cannot request something without having developed a prior skill in order to achieve the current goal. We spend thirty minutes discussing each client. By looking through the data provided, the BCBA determines if anything else needs to be added or removed. The BCBA also needs to determine if the goal has been mastered or needs to be continued. I believe that with my experience in data taking, graphs and conducting sessions in ABA principles will help me to succeed as a BCBA. I will need further experience in in assessments and how to conducted them. I also need to improve on how to analyze data and graphs in order to assess goals and determine if they are achieved or not. This will improve as I continue my education here at Capella University on my journey with each class in ABA curriculum. I have to get my master’s in psychology then complete all of my practicum whether it is with Capella or through my job. I will acquire experience as a BCBA (practitioner) while completing my coursework (scholar). As I continue the path of a practitioner-scholar, I build confidence in my abilities to educate ABA staff such as RBT’s and BT. This will help me for when I become a BCBA. Action Plan

MY JOURNEY TO BECOMING A BCBA 8 I am currently working as a BT. I have researched all of the requirements to become a BCBA when I started to work for my last company in 2017. In order to become a BCBA, I have to earn my master’s in psychology and complete all of my practicum whether is 1,000 hours or 1,500 hours of supervision. The Behavior Analysis Certified Behavior (BACB) website explains in detail each requirement by state. The course work is as follows: Earn an acceptable graduate degree from an accredited university, complete acceptable graduate coursework in behavior analysis, and complete a defined period of supervised practical experience. Acceptable degree programs include those in behavior analysis, education, or psychology. Included is a BACB- Approved Course Sequence (ACS), or BACB course content allocation requirements and receive approval from the BACB. The BACB requires between 1,000-1,500 hours of supervised practical experience in ABA. For a Faculty Position and Research, you need to earn an acceptable graduate degree, hold a full-time faculty position in behavior analysis that includes research and teaching and complete a defined period of supervised practical experience. For post doctorate work, you need to hold an acceptable doctoral degree that was conferred within the last 10 years and have at least 10 years of post-doctoral practical experience (BACB, 2018). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
