Mary: Yeah, but when will I find time for that….well there is this one gym in the city that also provides childcare services so that parents can exercise in the evenings. Maybe I could try that…I love my boys sometimes I just need a break. It can be difficult being a single mother.Counselor: Yes, it sounds like it can be difficult for you. Although you are open to trying new ways to helpcope with your stress.
Mary: Yeah I am open to it, I just want to feel comfortable and relaxed without having to drink.Counselor: So what I am hearing, is that you are recognizing that your drinking has become an issue and that you are open to learning alternate ways of coping with your stress. During our next session we can discuss ways of managing your stress through in healthy ways. I would like for you to make a list of all of the things that you enjoy that help you to relieve stress.
