immigrants are a percentage of the crimes that occur, but it also demonstrates the seriousness of public safety when it comes to the broken immigration system. Illegal immigration also poses a risk on the economy because a vast amount American jobs are taken by these illegal immigrants. According to new Pew Research Center, the U.S. civilian workforce included 8 million unauthorized immigrants who were taking jobs that U.S. citizens need (Krogstad). The seriousness of this problem that comes with illegal immigrants needs to be resolved in order to prevent the spending on illegal immigrants, and having government provide for U.S. citizens who should have priority in these jobs. One way to solve this problem and the risk of public safety on the nation, is by improving the actual process of legalizing these immigrants who want to obtain a United States Visa. Currently, the legal processing time for immigrants to obtain the U.S. visa takes 5 to 10 years. This long and inefficient system results in immigrants crossing borders and taking action on their own, rather than waiting for a long period of time to become a citizen. A new system must be implemented to make it more efficient to obtain these visas. There needs to be stricter rules and regulations, and more workers hired to improve the efficiency and legalization to obtain these visas. By doing this, the legal processing time will reduce by a few years, but it won’t risk the safety of the public as the stricter rules and regulations help prevent criminals from obtaining these visas. Eventually those who want to live in America will be more willing to patiently wait and receive a Visa more quickly with the efficient system. As for the immigration
