t look promising and the course is based on concepts that are troubling and will do nothing but cause more problems. Although it is good to embrace the challenges, concerns, anxieties and uncertainties about the future, I think this really stems from scenario planning (and could be left at scenario planning) and not necessarily design and management, let alone design management collectively. All I could think about while reading this was scenario planning, and that is a subject entirely on its own. New Approaches to Design and Management in India Coming from the mindset of Western and specifically American culture, the idea of individualism is ingrained is us at an incredibly young age. Although we are urged to conform to the spectrum of societal norms, our culture is much less interdependent than that of Indian culture. What makes this distinction between American and Indian culture even more important is the fact that India has the youngest population in the world, meaning that it will be a driving force in the global economy not only through consumption but also through culture. The difference that is illustrated in this paper between a business school framework and a design school framework is the difference between data analytics and ethnographics. Data analytics is certainly the new gold mine in industry. Data collected, aggregated and filtered from millions of consumers allows business to narrowly target current and potential customers. However, design thinking does not see customers and data points, it sees people and it sees their experience as a process not a product. There is a humanistic approach that this design thought creates. It is the idea of integrating project learning and social sciences with statistical information to create more complex models and solutions to problems. It makes complete sense that design thinking students are finding success in the workplace. Statistical analysis and concrete problem-solving abilities can be taught universally; however, imagination is harder to teach. The article

I believe that the design student s ability to combine creative and critical thinking helps them more fully utilize past experiences, understand outside forces and make decisions that are on some level actually calculated. User-centered Design and Design-centered Business Schools Peter Gorb introduced the concept of design as a method to solve problems. In this he sets up the importance of design in its ability to address the how in problem solving instead of worrying about why. Fast forward to David Dunne and his opinions of design centered business schools. Dunne brings in the notion of ethnographics in problem solving. He illustrates that people s product and service utilization depend heavily on contextual cues including current mental state, historical knowledge and much more. These hard to quantify bits of information greatly shape the person acceptance and therefore utilization of an output. Dunne is very much concerned with the why part of the problem. In his views, understanding the context in which a society
