When Nick returns after giving Gatsby and Daisy 30 minutes to themselves, Daisy's face is tear-stained and Gatsby is glowing. It is clear that the two of them have shared some deep emotions and that Gatsby, at least on one level, believes his dream is slowly becoming reality. 38. Nick knows that Daisy will never be the woman Gatsby has wanted all the years because he's made he so big and so perfect in his mind. The passion and love of the dream will not long extend itself to the reality.
