hampers for needy families, the social worker to make sure the family is getting all the possible help and solicit the guidance unit in the Division of Education to assist with counseling children who experience trauma, since depending on the circumstances, poverty can associate to traumatic experiences in a student's life. SMART GOALS The smart goal for the implementation of culturally responsive teaching The use of collaborative, child-centered instruction/teaching is rarely practiced in my school. This can be attributed to several reasons, but the most blatant is, teachers are deficient in knowledge and strategies because of the lack of training to implement the same in their classroom. Teachers cannot implement what they do not know. Although I have read and learned about culturally responsive teaching practices I am still a novice in this area; thus, proper training and practice is needed. Therefore, a SMART goal for the implementation of culturally responsive teaching will be as follows: Between the period of September 1, 2020, to December 30, 2020 training/ professional development in collaborative child-centered instruction will be planned, coordinated and completed by 100% of the members of staff to equip teachers of the school with the necessary skills and proficiencies, so that they will be able to begin to
plan and execute culturally responsive teaching with confidence by January 2021, to meet the academic needs of students of low- income families within the system. A smart goal that will help me gain a better understanding of families so that I can connect instruction to students' experiences. After the workshop trial and the response received from parents of the Infant Year 1 class, the implementation of regular workshops will be used to better understand families so that instruction can be connected to students' experience. In these workshops, parents will be given a meal, also giving the option to bring and share, creating an atmosphere of ease. Open discussions based on specific topics will be held, having professionals in the areas of choice leading the process. S.M.A.R.T. Goal : By the end of December 2020, three workshops will be held with at least 90% of the parents of low-income families in an effort to better understand their familial constraints so as to be able to better instruct their children. The smart goal that involves collaboration with community members outside of the school environment to meet the needs of students of low- income families that will contribute to positive social change. Many homes are unable to adequately provide for their children's needs. For them to adequately provide, many parents must work two jobs while some must take whatever they get for however long it is available. Some parents may be employed today and unemployed tomorrow because jobs are unstable. Additional assistance is required to provide them the much-needed support and assistance to make ends meet so that they could satisfactorily provide for their children.
