drink about three sodas a day, as I do. Each one has about 110 calories each. So at three sodas a day, that equals to 330 calories just in drinks! Of course I can remove the drinks and drink water, or a lowfat milk, this would be a definite plus on this goal! One drink that I have become fond of is tap water with squeezed lemon. While I enjoy snacking during the day, between meals, I have decided to reduce the urge to snack by eating more green vegetables with my meal so as to curb the snack appeal afterwards. I have always enjoyed some type of snack before bedtime, and with the change in adding more vegetables to dinner meals, the urge for a night snack has subsided. I do not see any changes in my goals as I age except for maybe exercising and maybe that may not be an issue. I have seen many older people who are more physically fit than myself and can do more than I can. The one thing I may have to change is walking outside in the winter for fear of falling and breaking a bone. If this becomes the case as I age there is an indoor walking time for adults at the high school I could take advantage of, using a treadmill in my home would be another great option. I feel the goals I have set for myself will get me on the right track to a healthy and

HEALTHY EATING, NUTRITION, AND EXERCISE 6 happy life free of hypertension, or high blood pressure and lessen the risk for a heart attack or stroke. I believe that if I adhere to the goals I have layed out, and continue to do so, with the help of my doctor, I should be able to lessen the possibility of getting high blood pressure by almost seventy- five percent despite the fact it runs in my family. If I fail and continue on the path I am currently on chances are good that I will die of a disease that is related to high blood pressure such as a heart attack or stroke, and will not be around to see my children and grandchildren grow up into healthy happy adult.
