Explain how an alcohol solution of CoCl 2 could be used to predict rain. One way a solution of CoCl 2 can be used to predict rain is to soak a piece of cloth in the CoCl 2 solution and leave it out in the sun to evaporate. If the air is dry, the water will evaporate and leave blue CoCl 2 . If there is a lot of water vapor in the air (rain), a pink residue of CO will be left. 3. The forward reaction is endothermic because if heat is added it means that reactant is added. If reactant is added, equilibrium will shift to the right which is what is happening when the sample is turning green. b) The student added NaBr to the equilibrium mixture. Predict what the student will observe (color) and explain your answer. If the student adds NaBr, a reactant, equilibrium will shift to the right and the student will observe a green color. This is because NaBr is a reactant and when reactant is added equilibrium shifts to the right. c) The student adds Ag + ions to the mixture. Predict what the student will observe (color) and explain your answer.

If the student adds Ag + ions to the reaction, their positive charge will counteract the negative charge of the Br - . Because of this, equilibrium will shift to the left.
