Finally, the providers at stage 5 are the expert providers who have developed confidence due to their extensive experience and knowledge base and have the capacity of quickly grasping complex patient situations (Liou & Cheng, 2014, p. 57). The process of transitioning from a novice to an expert usually takes time, hence patience, commitment and dedicated are fundamental for a successful transition (Liou & Cheng, 2014, p. 57). Based on this permeable, I will then conduct my personal assessment that is comprehensive, affirmative and honest in order to ensure that I conclusively engage of the identifying my strengths and

As a result, the Benner’s Novice to Expert Model presented in the table below will be used as a guideline of my self-assessment prior to transitioning to the APN role. Table 1: Benner’s Novice to Expert Model of Self-Assessment Stage Description of Clinical Stage of Development Emotional Feelings Educational Needs Novice I have learned the basic skills needed for clinical practice. I rely heavily on rules, regulations, standards, and guidelines, but in many circumstances I can refer back to my managers or clinical instructors to communicate lack of knowledge in certain situations. Continue to increase skills acquired through basic training and experience. Often excited by learning new roles and concerned when I miss something, often feel overwhelmed and unsure of my judgement. Unsure if I am using the appropriate resources to plan and provide adequate patient care. Concerned with patient safety. Efficient in accomplishing most of my tasks I have developed a recognition of my clinical strengths and can identify the areas I am to some extent overwhelmed by the complexity of situations , question if I have the required skills and knowledge.
