Scripps Hospital has a weight loss program that allows patients to become educated by a doctor or nurse practitioner whom teach them how to lose weight with diet and exercise and stay a healthy weight thereafter. Inadequate stress management Chronic social stress, often arising from poor interpersonal relationships, job or unemployment stress, poor self-esteem, and low socioeconomic status has been associated with obesity and its associated illnesses ( Scott, Melhorn, & Sakai. 2013). Scripps hospital has a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program in which people can learn “ to cope with stress, pain and illness by drawing upon your inner resources. Closely modeled after the world-renowned stress reduction program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., our approach combines breath awareness, meditation, yoga and other mind-body methods to help you achieve serenity, health and well-being in your everyday life” 33
