In sampling, its used to select the initial population for the measure set - Once the sample is selected, data can’t be imported from the hospitals computer system is abstracted and entered manually from patients’ records. Healthcare Statistics: - Ratio: can be used to show the relationship between two measures (ex: x/y = ratio). - Proportions: are ratios but the numerator is a subset of the denominator so both parts of the equation must be measures of the same thing (ex: x/(x+y) = proportion). - Rates: used to measure events occurring over a period of time or to express a ratio or proportion as a percentage. - Continuous Variable: when values like time are being measured, they are said to be continuous variables. - Central Tendency: the distribution of a variable measured by statistics such as mean, median, mode. - Mean: the average of the values - Mode: the value that occurs the most - Median: the midpoint in a group of ranked values that divides data into 2 equal parts. - Measures of Variability: When using central tendency, its useful to know how widely the values vary from the value of central tendency. There are 3 statistics of variability: range, variance, and standard deviation. - Range: Is the difference from the highest value in frequency to the lowest. - Variance: the average variation from the mean.
