people of America really knew their history they would understand that the flag does not mean that they believe it does. The Confederate flag was actually a banner reserved for battle, being used by General Robert E. Lee during a tour of combat in Virginia. It gained in popularity as a symbol for the Confederacy and the south in general after the war had concluded. Let’s revisit that sentence “gained popularity as symbol for confederacy… after the war had concluded,” the history of the flag was not even a symbol of the confederacy until after its original use. I do not agree with taking down the flags and statues. It is part of our history, that’s like saying they are going to close down the Holocaust museum or really any museum about a horrific, even though the confederate flag doesn’t represent anything horrific besides war. “We must learn history in order to ensure that we will not repeat it” ( anonymous ) Lastly, I have a few very strong opinions about certain topics, however being as I am too young to vote I try to keep my opinions to myself in order to ensure my safety, and considering my age disables me from voting my opinion doesn’t necessarily matter just yet. I have many people in my life who influence the way I look at the world but I still believe that I make my own opinions and though the closest people in my life view something one way I am entitled to my own opinion so we may not always agree or have the same political view.
