Task 3 Based on the Essay Question: Create a Thinking skills chart the helps you organize the information. Include all info from Documents you want to use as well as OUTSIDE knowledge. The spread of Buddhism to China caused Chinese people to believe in that religion but also caused them to be against the religion. Buddhism was mostly popular for peasants because it was an easy religion to convert to and follow. This caused Confucianism and Daoism to want to become a bigger and widespread religion by building temples and statues of their founders. It was considered a threat to the Confucian elites because of its negative effects on Chinese economy, laws, family, and social structure. Although it was viewed indifferently, it was a religion that unified China during its political instability Task 4 Collect the documents in to groups. Groups must contain AT LEAST two documents to count as a group. Make sure that you have used all of the documents. List a document using its number and one other way to identify the document – author or title, for example. Remember you can use the documents more than once if you need to. Document Group A Document Group B Document Group C Documents 1 & 2: Both documents tell the main aspects of Buddhism and what the teachings of Buddhism are. They explain the key things every Buddhist follows and hopes to reach. Documents 2 & 5: Both documents speak highly of Buddhism and its effect on the people who follow the religion. They explain how the religion works and the values of the religion. Documents 4 & 6: Both documents are against Buddhism and are written by Confucians that think Buddhism shouldn’t be put on a high degree because of its foreign contact to China and its negative impact on 2 | P a g e
