take the initiative to get something done).” • “Interviewers can ask whatever they want to ask; interviews tend to be informal and informational for candidates seeking summer associate positions (the firm already knows what classes you are taking and your grades, in an interview they want to get to know you as a person).” • “Summer associate candidates get behavioral interviews; lateral candidates get very substantive and rigorous interviews about experience.” Lateral & Clerk Integration • “Fried Frank does an excellent job with laterals. I felt integrated right away and had several different levels of mentoring to make me feel welcome.” • “Attorneys and staff are extremely welcoming and receptive. Getting staffed on new projects as a lateral is a fairly easy and an organic process.” • “The group that I work with did an excellent job of integrating me into the firm; however, the firm as a whole was much harder to assimilate into.” OUR SURVEY SAYS Vault’s Verdict: Fried Frank doesn’t coddle its associates, many of whom find themselves working long hours on challenging assignments from the first year. But the associates appreciate strong training programs to support them as they go, as well as market level compensation. The firm’s new leadership has earned high marks for its efforts to improve transparency. Satisfaction • “Fried Frank is a shockingly welcoming place, with a won- derful and supportive group of people.” • “Challenging but interesting work with genuinely nice people.” • “I enjoy the work and the clients we have and find the day- to-day work challenging and rewarding.” • “Attorneys in most practice groups are able to gravitate towards specialties within their interests. Firm management makes associate job satisfaction a clear priority.” Firm Culture • “Our lawyers are a very social group. We have monthly attorney cocktail hours that are well attended and we also have smaller social gatherings for specific practice groups and departments.” • “We have group meetings every two weeks, partner/associate lunches once a month, firm-wide cocktail hours every month and associate lunches every week. We also have a partner mentor program and an associate mentor program with monthly coffee budget. People are generally busy but I think it’s a collegial place—much more so than my previous firm. Partners are also very willing to chat (on both a personal and professional level) which makes going to work much more comfortable.” • “The firm is working on providing additional opportunities for lawyers to socialize together. The most opportunities are always available during the summer associate program.” • “Everyone is very collegial and friendly in the office, and the office hosts social events once or twice per month. Socially and professionally, I enjoy working with and getting to know my colleagues.” Associate/Partner Relations • “Associates enjoy great working relationships with partners.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
