means that the EHR software will need to be certified to qualify under HITECH or the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act where it will need to be used to engage both patients and their family, while also improving care coordination, improve population and public health, decrease health inequalities, uphold privacy and security of patient health information, and expand and uphold healthcare quality, safety, and efficiency standards (HealthIT.gov, 2019). Scope and Data While implementing any and all applications will need to be capable to produce reports that are most necessary and useful to healthcare providers and healthcare facilities. These reports would be able to inform care personal about certain current and potential healthcare issues and

concerns within the population and public health. Examples of these issues and concerns in these reports could be influenza or measles outbreaks or cases of food poisoning related to recall notices. Health Information Exchange (HIE) This system will need to allow the capability of communication between healthcare providers, facilities and pharmacies and any other ancillary service providers via electronically in order to send prescriptions and physician orders in addition to sending and receiving lab reports and give access to be able to log and code diagnoses, procedures, medical equipment, and drugs through the use of a designated code set, such as ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS in patient health records and charts (Sayles and Trawick, 2014). Security To ensure proper security there would need to be a secured personal login of a username and password would be needed with a more stringent requirement such as random personalized question to verify identity to minimize the risk of an unauthorized system access and breech of security. Further security measures would include that the hardware would need to be set up in a secure location and that the network be encrypted and separate from a public Wi-Fi or other Wi- Fi network access points to limit security issues. Also, workstations would need to be secured with automatic log out settings after short periods of inactivity typically around five minutes. Mobile devices would be needed to have a property tracker that would allow tracking like a GPS, throughout the facility so that the device could be accounted for. Safeguards like these are all designed to prevent unauthorized access to the system and the stored data and therefore protect patient information and supply privacy and security.

Capabilities The EHR software will need to meet the requirements of having the ability to code certain information such as reimbursements, planning, public health reporting, statistics, and quality of care. The International Classification of Diseases or ICD and the Current Procedural Terminology or CPT are used to organize all diagnoses and procedures. However, the ICD-10- CM or Tenth Edition of ICD, Clinical Modification and ICD-10-PCS or Tenth Edition, Procedural Coding System are the newer standards in coding currently. CPT, is maintained by

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
