American Plan; this strategy was used to diminish the power and influence of union by propagating that the culture of unions was not American. Employers pushed the anti-union narrative by vilifying the union organizers and demonizing the whole concept of unions. Paternalism; this was a soft way of crushing unions by offering an alternative that was disguised as a way of improving workers welfare. It involved the employer providing low-cost housing, medical covers and providing other social services that were meant to entice the employees. The employers exercised control over their workforce by portraying the organization as a big happy family as opposed to just a corporate entity ( Mueller & Philippon, 2006) . Under the current labor practices, paternalism is still legal although the scope of the welfare services offered may not be as broad. The organization essentially provides the employee with social welfare services in return for them pledging their loyalty to the firm. Additionally, the
