Module one: Define Project
Section 1 – Access project scope
Access project scope and other relevant documentation
The word project is defined as a collaborative enterprise
outcome, involving research or design that is carefully
planned to achieve a particular aim. Projects are systems
that are constituted by teams within or across
organisations, to accomplish particular tasks under time
constraints.
An ongoing project is usually called (or evolves into) a
program, by definition, delivering a once-off outcome,
involving a group of interrelated activities, with a team of people, within a specific timeframe
(Wikipedia, 2014).
Project Scope is a statement reflecting a project framework. A scope statement is primarily
concerned about what the project is about and what it does not include. Setting a boundary, or
parameters, it should enable any individual to read it and clearly identify what the project intends
to achieve/deliver. It is the what of a project.

Five processes are included in managing project scope and they include:

(WBS), which
presents a
visual layout of
different parts
of the project,
and how they
are linked

included within
a Project, and
includes a
process to
ensure actions
are correct and
do what they
are intended to
5. Scope
control – how
the project is to
be
managed/contr
olled; levels of
delegated
authority.

Project scope statements should be included in documents which are relevant to the project,
these documents could include:
Timeframes for project
Schedules, milestones and delegated times to be complied with.
Quality standards for project
These can be standards or benchmarks, international, national, or corporate requirements.
Project resources
Document identifying all resources required, to undertake the project.
Inclusions and exclusions from project
This is when changes or variations are being applied.
Project plan or summary
References here will ensure that the focus is on key actions to be undertaken and delivered.
