TVO ILC ENG4U Poem analysis worksheet Identify word clusters to help you determine the theme or main idea of your poem. The first verse of the poem speaks of the uncertainty today, where they will send him away from the table when company comes over. Then the second verse speaks of hope and change for tomorrow and the future where that won’t happen anymore. “I lost my talk, the talk you took away” “You snatched it away” “Two ways I talk, your way is more powerful” These word clusters give me the idea that the main idea is conformity. Focus questions What is the theme or main idea of your poem? How do you know? How does the title relate to the theme? What image or line from the poem stood out to you? Explain. If you could ask the poet a question, what might it be? Why are you asking that question?
