Thematic BackstoryHere you should include your fun flavor text for your game. Set the stage for the players to get them in theright mindset for your card game. Note: This is not a creative writing assignment. Your goal is not to createan amazing story, your focus should be on the card game mechanics. Keep this short and sweet.List of Game ComponentsHere is where you will list the components of your game, typically in bullet form.Components Example:56 Game Cards24 Red Cards24 Blue Cards8 Yellow CardsInstruction ManualCheat Sheet / Quick ReferenceGame SetupHere is where you will instruct the players on how to set up your game. What are the basic setupinstructions? For Example: How many cards are dealt out to each player? Where do the cards go? What is publicknowledge and what should be hidden? What components do players need at the start of thegame?ObjectiveHere is where you will describe the goal of the game. You should be able to state this in one or two simplesentences.. Your goal needs to be clear to the players so they can quickly remember how to win the game. For Example: Players gain victory points by building structures and taking over territories. The firstplayer to reach 10 victory points wins the game.
Turn OverviewHere is where you will structure out the overview of a players turn. This is typically done with a paragraph ofexplanation followed by a numbered list where players can follow along with each step. You do not want togo into too much detail in each step here, instead you can point players to the next section for more detailson complicated turn actions.Turn Overview Numbered List Example:1.Draw 2 Cards from the draw pile, keep them hidden.2.Choose 1 to put into your hand and put the other Face Down in the Discard Pile.3.Select one of your cards from your hand and play it.4.Resolve the actions on the card and end your turn.Details Regarding Various Game MechanicsHere is where you should go into more detail regarding your designed game mechanics. Explain the designyou have developed in this section, going into more detail when necessary. Page 4 of thesampleRulebook from Pandemicis a great example of breaking down the different actions available to a playerand how they work.Ending the GameHere is where you will explain the win condition(s) of your game. This should be a clear statement that iseasy for the players to remember and keep track of. Looking again to thePandemic Example.
