How can company employees help to create in creating a positive working
environment?
This problem statement was formed in collaboration with the university, as it was
commenced to meet the standards. It was formed basing the research on the company
where the researchers internship was held previously this year. Based on the experience,
this issue stated was most relevant to the company and business world and the thesis
subject options, taking into consideration the study subject. Being in the company for 3
consecutive months as an intern, the researcher could see how the company runs and is
handling their everyday issues. This time spent there and observing the company
operations helped to identify issues they face and see how well
and in what ways they
managed to tackle them.

1.4 Delimitation
This thesis was written based on a certain company, specifically the organisation
researchers internship was held in. It could have been written from a wider perspective
and taking into consideration multiple companies as a whole, for example categorising
them into private and public sectors. However, this approach would have not been suitable
for this specific research, as it would have been too broad. Writing a research based on a
wider perspective would also need extensive research and the work that would be needed
to put in would require more time in order to be more focused on the overall work and its
quality. Limiting the thesis qualifies the issues to be studied more in depth, and therefore
dig deeper and make it more interesting. Writing the thesis at a wider scope will only allow
the issue to be researched superficially.
CHAPTER TWO
Literature review
2.1 Maslow’s Theory of Needs
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a psychology theory posed by Abraham Maslow in his
1943 paper, “A Theory of Human Motivation.”
1
There are five different levels of needs, listed from the most crucial ones to the least.

They are listed as follows: Psychological, Safety, Love/Belonging, Esteem, Self-
actualisation.
This basic pyramid of needs can be translated and find connections with a working
environment.
Psychological
needs are what each human needs no matter what, like breathing, eating
and drinking and sleeping, which is rest. This can be translated into a comfortable working
environment, employees need to go to the bathroom, have a kitchen facility and the
temperature in the workplace cannot be too hot nor cold.
The Safety
means that people need to feel that they are safe. This doesn't stop with only
3
ourselves, the need to feel is also that our family,
our resources, pets, home etc is safe,
as well. This can be translated into job security - either it be virtual (passwords and
identity) or physical - code/key access, safety exits, safety classes and lectures.
