FIBRIC ACID DRUGS INTERACTIONS Oral anticoagulants: may increase risk for bleeding due to displacing warfarin from its plasma protein binding sites Statins: risk for myositis, and rhabdomyolysis increase Bile acid sequestrants may decrease absorption and effectiveness; administer 1 hour before or 4-6 hours after. (Davis’s Drug Guide for Nurses, pg. 553) May enhance hypoglycemic effects of antidiabetic drugs (Potter & Perry pg.503)

FIBRIC ACID DRUGS NURSING ASSESSMENT (PRIOR) Baseline assessment on patient prior to administration, complete health history, preexisting conditions, family history, all current medications taken by patient including vitamin supplements, alcohol and drug use etc.… Evaluate all lab findings, especially liver function studies, lipid profiles, and CK Assess patients ability to understand and receive instructions, include family and caregivers as needed Monitor patient for therapeutic effects (Potter & Perry, pg. 505)
