Frankly the notion that nucor is doing something

Frankly, the notion that Nucor is doing something wrong, or is not “diverse” enough is absurd. Nucor maintains a production capacity of 27 million tons, is North America’s largest producer of steel and North America’s largest recycler. They have effectively utilized the functional organizational structure by eliminating cumbersome management layers and giving more power to the workers that make the company operate. The unconventional approach has yielded unmatched results. Because of their “multi-pronged growth strategy” their shareholders realized a return of 538% that exceeded the total returns of 21% for the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index, and 134% for the Standard & Poor’s steel group index (“Nucor Corporation”, 2017).Nucor is a Fortune 500 company, with approximately 200 facilities. They only have about 100 people working at the corporate headquarters, and have very few layers between the CEO and average worker. They are composed of 90 businesses that synergistically complement each other through divisional, geographical and functional boundaries. Nucor employs nearly 24,000
GROUP ASSURANCE OF LEARNING EXERCISE 44employees every day and unquestionably leads their industry in wage and incentive programs (“Nucor Corporation”, 2017). Why would anyone alter the executive leadership structure, the board of directors, John Ferriola’s role as CEO & President, or the Board of Directors? Their business model works, plain and simple. An argument could always be made that they could do better, but the results do not lie, and as the unquestionable industry leader, it is safe to say they have a system that should not be tampered with. Any changes made to Nucor should go as follows:John J. Ferriola (CEO)James D. Frias (CFO, Treasurer & President)R. Joseph Stratman (Chief Digital Officer & Vice President)James R. Darsey (Executive Vice President of Raw Materials & COO)Ladd R. Hall Raymond S.David A. SumoskiLeon J. T. D. The CFO is the President, and James R. Darsey has been titled COO, per the course text recommendations (“David & David”, 2017, p. 221). This new structure filters decision making through the product type, then by intended purpose. Each product type could be
