father is placed in a chair higher than their sons to represent his position in the family and the younger son is placed furthest away to show how he does not agree with the conversation his family is having. On the other hand, Wes Anderson uses and demonstrates several design principles in his movies that are very characteristic of him. The most common one, and the one he happens to be in love, with it is his use of balance and the rule of thirds. Most of the time he places his subjects in the middle of the frame splitting both sides in equal parts, with the same visual information in each side, creating a symmetrical balance that is attractive to the eye. Wes also maintain a certain emphasis along his scenes, he knows exactly where he wants the audiences to focus their attention in the composition. With the help of space, as mentioned earlier, and the contrast of shapes and sizes he creates frames in which the viewer can understand what is of bigger importance. This goes hand in hand with how he manages the placement of the subjects. For example, in a scene of “ Moonrise Kingdom” he sets the character closer to the camera since he is narrating a specific moment or adding a comment to the story. He creates contrast of color between how the character is dressed and the background, isolating him in an empty space. His techniques are also something that distinct him from the rest for example his use of perspective. He likes to place the camera looking down towards the character´s perspective in order to make you feel like a giant observing the same situation that the subject is having but from an aerial view. Movement is also part of his frames. The camera, most of the times, pans across the room with a horizontal move, synchronized with the rhythm of the characters or just to change from one subject to another creating long takes. His characters always walk in a straight line and never diagonally. Lastly with the repeated use of several elements, some of them named before, he creates a continuity of compositional aspects throughout his movies. Wes Anderson has acquired a sense of unity, not only in with his work but to his name.
