Overall there is big advantages to a prospector strategy which can be “expansion in market share due to first mover advantage in the new market, increased opportunities, higher sales and hence more profits and margins, and building customer loyalty and motivation and inspiration for your sales team” (mbaskool.com, para. 4). Ensuring that leadership has the right focus and teams to go forward for the broader vision is vital in its success as an organization. Competition in the Market Motors and More, Inc. is highly competitive, being a business-to-business sales company that manufactures small motors and accessories for industrial and home products. What makes them very competitive in the market is the organization has an emphasis on growth, innovation, and new product development. Furthermore, by using a prospector strategy they are able to coin new markets and introduce new products within that market. A prospector strategy takes advantage of new markets and products (Gomez-Mejia, Galkin and Cardy, 2001). Their strength as competitive company is evident by the fact they want to increase product demand output by 96% and the various positions now needed to expand the company and keep up with demand. Therefore, the company needs to put together a well-organized strategic plan.

HR Project Plan 7 One area that Motors and More, Inc. already has is its ability to connect with customers in a community-oriented way. As McCain mentions “the president is former military and highly patriotic” (2007, p. 1). With the company being from a small southern town and employing a lot of locals, using this to strategically appeal to its customers could be a benefit some of the larger conglomerates do not have. “A competitive advantage is defined as having a superior market place position relative to competitors” ((Ivancevich & Konopaske, 2013, p. 37). They could use the military background and patriotic nature to appeal to others with the same views, maybe through marketing or advertising in certain areas or campaign ads. The company could possibly do sponsorships with veteran’s organizations or on patriotic holidays throughout the year to boost its vision and brand. Motors and More, Inc. has solely focused on relationship building in the current market. If the company wants to truly develop against competitors in the coming years it will have to distinguish itself from the competition. Motors and More, Inc. can distinguish itself by expanding into other territories and focus on other areas of distribution, possibly an online opportunity. HRM needs to develop a strategy and build a team for Motors and More, Inc. around research and development, marketing department, and ecommerce. If Motors and More, Inc. can establish that they can lead through innovation and become best in class for producing motors at a faster pace with more distribution channels, the company could then drastically step ahead of the competition and increase their market share and profits in the industry.
