the current date/time based on the computer’s clock o To keep them from updating, copy and paste the values (using paste special) WEEKDAY returns a value representing the day of the week o To format as Sun, Mon, Tue, etc., use the following custom format: ddd DAY, MONTH, YEAR, DATE DAY, MONTH, and YEAR return the respective portion of a date DATE takes the inputs of the day, month, and year and returns the corresponding date Custom date/time formats Date format codes o Months (m, mm, mmm, mmmm) o Days (d, dd, ddd, dddd) o Years (y, yyyy) Time format codes o Hours (h, hh) o Minutes (m, mm) o Seconds (s, ss) o AM/PM (displays time as 12-hour clock) To display times that exceed 24 hours, use the following custom number format: [h] :mm LEFT, RIGHT, MID LEFT returns the specified number of characters from the start of a text string RIGHT returns the specified number of characters from the end of a text string

MID returns the characters from the middle of a text string, given a starting point and length FIND, SEARCH, LEN Used to return the starting position of one text string within another text string o FIND is case-sensitive; wildcard characters are not allowed o SEARCH is not case-sensitive; wildcard characters are allowed Wildcard characters Question mark (?) matches a single character Asterisk (*) matches any number of characters o LEN returns the number of characters in a text string Used to combine multiple values/text entries into a single entry o Example: To combine the contents of cells A1 and B1, enter the following in cell UPPER, LOWER, PROPER UPPER converts text to uppercase LOWER converts text to lowercase PROPER converts text to proper capitalization Text to columns If you have delimited text in a column, this command will enable you to split the text into separate fields o Delimiters are used in certain types of files (e.g. CSV files) to separate fields Data Data Tools Text to Columns Very useful tool to convert text files to the proper format in Excel
