The biggest efforts John made occurred while he was President. Although they did not completely work out, John did try to better the country as best as he could. For example, in the film John tries to decide what path to take when it comes to the conflict with France and Britain, and does what he thinks is in the best interest of the country rather than what will do good for his‘reputation’ as President. After dealing with this, he was faced with the Alien and Sedition Acts, which in turn would smudge his reputation as a whole. These Acts did many things, including: raising residence requirement for citizenship from five to fourteen years, allowed the President todeport any alien considered undesirable, and allowed fines and jail terms to be set for anyone who expressed opinions considered damaging to the government. Adams thought these terms were the right thing to do for the country at the time, to prevent foreign penetration, but in turn the act was found unconstitutional. Although he was not the most well-like president, John Adams was a man who donated his life, and his children’s life to bettering this country, and trying to get it to the best position possible. Through many struggles, his reputation was put down, and he was unliked by many. These opinions however often prove to be false, or exaggerated when facts and the history of the country are examined, seeing how hard he worked for the United States of America.
