Leading with Purpose: Begin with the End in Mind of how the politics effect and shape schools on not only a state level, but a district level. I am employed by one of the largest public-school systems which leads me to believe there are a lot of opinions, struggles, and policies to attend to. In a positive light, I do look forward to learning about new initiatives to improve my school and student success, not all is negative! In Illinois the professional requirements to become a licensed school administrator are outlined by categories, education, experience, examinations, and documentation requirements. The education requirements are as follows: 1. Hold at least a master’s degree with coursework in education administration. 2. Complete a state approved program for preparation of school administrators (or out of state comparable program). The experience requirements are to have two years of full time teaching while holding a valid Illinois teaching certificate. The examination requirements are that candidates must pass the ICTS basic skills assessment, and the principal ICTS principal content exam. One final step, the documentation requirements are to complete the application to be endorsed and receive your administrative certificate as well as pass a background check. Professional organization or journals I have already subscribed to are the National Education Organization. I have been a part of this organization since I began my undergraduate degree in teaching because as a beginning and eager teacher I wanted to be more aware of educational issues, practices, trends and other happenings today and how that can help me become great. Aspects of this organization that I enjoy is that they share ideas and tools rather than just news in education today. The articles are timely, concise, and relatable. Some ideas presented on their site have been tried and supported by teachers in many areas, showing that these are practical approaches and advice that can be applied easily. The quick tidbits are great to keep your mind focused on the topic of what you are searching for.
