The American Nurses Association provides nurses with opportunities such as continuing education courses along with other means to further education, and opportunities to connect withother nurses.C3. Explain the requirements for professional license renewal in your state. For a license in Ohio, one must complete twenty-four contact hours of continuing education in order to maintain a license. RN’s must renew their license on every odd numbered year. This process is quite simple, the forms are on the Ohio Board of Nursing website and only take a few minutes to complete. Nurses are not required to submit proof of continuing education hours unless chosen to do so by the Board of Nursing, therefore it is important for the nurse to keep certificates from completed continuing education courses completed. The BON will let the nurse keep a license if he or she does not complete their continuing education hours for one two year period, (Ohio Board of Nursing, 2018). C3a. Discuss the consequences of failure to maintain license requirements in your state. In Ohio, if a nurse does not renew their license the BON shows them as “expired.” This means they will no longer be able to practice as a nurse in Ohio. In order to become active once again, the person must complete the "RN Reactivation and Reinstatement Application," with all required documentation completed. The nurse must then verify completion of continuing education courses needed. There are also fess in which the nurse will be required to pay to return to active status (Lawriter, 2018).C4. Compare the differences between registered nursing license requirements in a compactstate versus a non-compact state.7/22/18
Running head: Professional Roles and Values Task 36States that are compact will allow a nurse to work in any compact state under the nursing license they acquired in their home state. If the license is obtained in any state that is not in the compact license agreement, the nurse must file for a license in whichever state he or she wishes to work, (NCSBN, 2018).C.Discuss the functional differences between the Food and Drug Administration andthe Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (see the web links below). The Food and Drug Administration sets standards and regulations for quality and safety,FDA approval is key in healthcare. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services is a government agency that provideshealthcare coverage for individuals. D1. Discuss how the two regulatory agencies influence your professional nursing practice.I am influenced on a daily basis by The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The majority of patients I see are covered either under Medicare or Medicaid services. Unfortunately, working in healthcare, we deal with patients who lose this insurance coverage much more than isacceptable. I see patients regularly who it is clear are not at a functional level that they could safely go home, but because insurance chooses not to cover them they must leave our facility.
