Kristin Singiser, Rooms Division Manager The rooms division manager was responsible for two departments at the WIYCR:housekeeping and the front desk. To many guests, it seemed like Singiser had beenat the resort forever. In fact, Singiser had been hired in 1985 as part of the frontdesk staff and was now 35 years old. She was born and raised in the midwesternUnited States. She came to the resort with little hotel industry experience, had onlybeen to the Caribbean as a tourist prior to taking the job, and proceeded to workher way up in the WIYCR organization to her current position. She was wellrespected by the guests and local staff because of her never-ending energy and con-stant smile. However, after 11 years at the property Singiser was beginning to getmore frustrated with problems she faced over and over again. Her staff knew howSingiser felt but also knew that the issues were mainly between her and the Chicagooffice.Steve Lucas, Food and Beverage Director The food and beverage director was responsible for two restaurants, a commissary,an employee dining facility, and three bars that were located on the WIYCR prop-erty. The resort had experienced high turnover in this position, with three food andbeverage directors resigning to return to the United States within the past 2 yearsalone. Steve Lucas, 28 years old with recent experience working as the food andbeverage director for an exclusive California resort, was currently filling this posi-tion. Lucas was from the United States and had an impressive restaurant industrytrack record. He was hired by the resort in the middle of November 1994 andarrived at the property during the first week of December. This marina included dock space for up to35 boats, a fuel and water dock, and yacht maintenance services. The marinaattracted yachting enthusiasts who were seeking a short stay in a resort environ-ment. Nick Smith was promoted 8 years ago to his current position as marina direc-tor. Smith, now 45 years old, was originally from the United States and had beenworking at the resort for nearly 15 years. He lived on the property along with hiswife and their 6-year-old daughter.
