looking at liberty as the absence of obstacles external to the agent. You are free if no one is stopping you from doing whatever you might want to do. Without having any restrictions you could do as you please. On the other hand, some people see liberty in a controlling way, meaning although you have the freedom to do anything you must be self-determined, which is to say that you must be able to control your own destiny in your own interests. I agree with what Berlin is saying because even though we believe to be free and have the freedom to do anything we want. We are always in control whether it's from yourself or anything around that is making you fail to do a passion that you yourself would rather not have but this

freedom gives you the prevention from realizing it. In the article, Berlin gives a scenario which gives me a stronger understanding of what he believes about freedom. He says that when you driving down a road you come to many crossroads which makes you choose a certain way to go. You have control over where you are driving and what your destination is. You are completely free, but are you really? Where are these direction coming from where is the urge of driving a certain direction leading you to? This makes me think that just because you have the freedom to do whatever there is always something that it will draw you in a certain direction. You will never do things for your own free will as long you let your irrational desires threaten your longevity. I learned that freedom and liberty do not always have to be about laws and political reasoning but can be more ethics and one's opinions. This article has helped bring my personal view of positive and negative freedom to broaden and look at it in a different way. One might say that liberty is simply about how many doors are open fro you but i reall believe its about going through the right doors for the right reasons.
