were of know use at all when problems arose with the brewery and Xu decided to pay back 58 million dollars in loans without consent. Although the brewing company came to nothing and Clissold made numerous mistakes, he did learn a lot through this venture. First of all, he and his company learned that it is hard to just jump into a venture and into an industry without experience. China is not as easy a market place as people would like to believe, because Chinese live by their own rules. Secondly, Clissold also learned that guanxi, or relationship, are powerful tools in China, however, they are not to be used lightly. Although having more connections seems like a good thing, it can backfire if one is not careful like it did in the case with the brewery contracts. At the end of the chapter, Clissold admits, “I had been pushing for a quick solution to problems that I only half understood” (178). This experience at the brewing company, while disastrous, was a big learning experience for him and his company.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
