for boxing because she was a female fighter but she overcomes this feeling and successfully beats many other female fighters. All in all Maggie changed this perception that female fighters are not as good because she won most of her fights and made it to the world championship. Genre is a category in which a film falls in based on their form and content in this case the genre of Million Dollar Baby is sports and drama. The film is sports because the whole movie about boxing and a female fighter and her trainer. But the movie also falls into the drama category because the film also focuses on the relationship part between Maggie and Frankie and how it is like a father daughter relationship. Because of this relationship between Maggie and
4 Khan Frankie she wants to succeed and erase that sexism that Frankie has towards her. I believe that the main reason why Maggie does not want to fail is because she does not want to let herself or Frankie down because he a father figure for her. Similarly Maggie is like a daughter figure for Frankie that is why it is hard for him to kill her and to see her in a horrible coma. Both the characters have rocky relationships with their family that is why they have such a strong connection. Because Maggie’s family just wants her money before she dies and Frankie’s daughter never answers any of his letters so they both need that family component in their lives. This film was not like other sports films because the ending of this film was very sad and not triumphant like most sports films. In the end of this movie Maggie is severely hurt in the neck and is in a coma on a hospital bed and she basically is a vegetable. She is so tired of not being able to do anything that she asks Frankie to kill her with adrenaline shots and unplugging her breathing tubes, so he does it and she dies at the end. Most movies in this genre feature a team or athlete that sucks and gradually gets better and wins a big competition that they were prepping for and the ending is happy. But in Million Dollar Baby not only does Maggie die but she also does not win the fight and she does not become the welterweight champion because of her injury. This movie made me feel many things but mostly happy and very sad as well. It also made me realize the importance of family because Maggie and Frankie similarly both have not great relationships with their families. Frankie tries to keep in touch with his only daughter but
