Activity Complete the following individually or in a group (as applicable to the specific activity and the assessment environment): 1. Explain how you would identify skills development and maintenance opportunities, based upon the needs you have assessed. This will vary depending on: What the skill is The client’s existing experience and competency Organisational procedure Appropriate learning methods Facilities and resources required. See if opportunities exist within the client’s current routine. Education opportunities may be found nearby in the community, such as at a social group, class or an exercise club. Find out what the client is comfortable with. For example, an opportunity for Frank to develop and maintain his cooking skills would be for him to be visited by a Nutrition Guidance counsellor, who can explain the importance of a varied diet and show him how to cook these items, as well as giving him simple meal ideas.

Identify three services that you cannot provide directly to clients, as they are outside of your work role. For each one, suggest what specialist / alternative colleague you would refer a client to. All answers will vary. For example: Helping clients administer their own medication: a nurse. Helping clients eat healthily: a nutritionist. Helping a client develop their social skills: an experienced colleague.
