team can include teachers, student aides, BCBCA's, service coordinator, parents/or guardians and
the child. An IEP is an legal document. The individual education plan details many aspects of the
child, including diagnosis, impairments, assistive devices, diet and modifications, health related
information, current goals, interests and behavioral data.
Although I have never personally written an IEP, because I have never worked with
children. I have written many ISP's which are later turned into Regional center IPP’s. ISP’s/IEP
are very similar an ISP is for adults and an IEP is for children. I have ran IDT meetings which are
similar to IEP meetings, its where the interdisciplinary team meets with the client/child and goes
over any new health concerns, issues within the home, medication, and money management.
These meetings are typically held every 6 months. Which is known as an Annual and Semi-
Annual. All of this is done through a person-centered process of planning and gathering. If a
child is receiving Behavioral services the BCBA will take part in this meeting, typically offering
a written report for all persons involved. The BCBA will go over the behavioral aspect, what
behaviors are decreasing, the reason for the decrease or any new behaviors that a child is
displaying. The BCBA along with other disciplines will help create the IEP.
