small-set flashcards, and quiz yourself. All of these methods require space in between them and rest. Creating acronyms and making meaningful connections is an example of elaborative rehearsal. Elaborate rehearsal is defined as “The process of strengthening new memories by forming meaningful associations between the information and existing memories or knowledge” (Nevid 2015). Making acronyms helps tie the new information to works or phrases that are already in our long-term memory. While, making meaningful connections helps tie the new information into personal memories. In order to retain information, in our long-term memories, we have to space out our learning. Memory note taking can be effective because it forces our brains to pull the information out of our long-term memory. This also helps the information stick indefinitely because we come back to it often. When you take notes from your memory, you can use semantic network model to link similar information (Nevid 2015). Everyone has a preferred method of learning and studying such as; visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Capitalizing on these preferred methods to engage our long-term memory will lead to successful studying. 3
