9. In three phase AC power supply module, fixed supply was used as the power source for converter station 1 and variable power supply for converter station 2. 10.The Inductance of the DC line (X L) was selected as 600Ω. 11. On each regulating autotransformer, made the following settings: Buck-Boost selector to 0% Phase Shift to 0° 12. Connected the digital outputs of each Data Acquisition and Control Interface to the Firing control inputs of the power thyristor module, using the cable DB9. 13. In LVDAC-EMS software, open the HVDC Transmission System control window. Selected the Data Acquisition and Control Interface, which was used in converter station 1 by the serial number J299 . 14. In the HVDC Transmission System Control window, made the following settings: a. Function parameter to Dual Thyristor Bridge b. Control Type parameter to Independent. c. Firing Angle Control parameter of Bridge 1 to Knob. d. Firing Angle parameter of Bridge 1 to 75° e. Parameters Q 1 through Q 6 of Bridge 1 were all set to Active. f. Firing Angle Control parameter of Bridge 2 to Knob. g. Firing Angle parameter of Bridge 2 to 165° h. Parameters Q 1 through Q 6 of Bridge 2 were all set to Active. 15. Started the Dual Thyristor Bridge by clicking the start/stop button. 16. The Thyristor Bridge in converter station 1 would act as a rectifier and in converter station 2 as an inverter. Consequently the electric power flow from station 1 to station 2.

, 17. In LVDAC-EMS software, opened the metering window and selected serial no. J299 which was used to perform parameter measurement in the HVDC transmission system for converter station 1. 18. In the metering window, open the Acquisition Settings and set the sampling window to 8 cycles. Set the meters as indicated below: a. Set three meters to measure DC line current Idc (I2) and voltage Edc (E2), and the power Pdc [PQS2 (E2,I2)] b. Set two meters to measure the rms values of line-to-line voltage E 1 2 (E1) and line current I1 (I1) at the ac side of the three- phase Thyristor Bridge (bridge 1) in converter station 1. c. Set three meters to measure the active power [PQS1 (E1,I1) 3~], reactive power [PQS1 (E1,I1) 3~] and displacement power factor [PF (E1, I1) 3~] at the ac side of the three-phase thyristor bridge (bridge 1) in converter station 1. d. Set two meters to measure the rms values of line-to-line voltage E1 2 (E3) and line current I1 (I3) at the ac side of the three- phase Thyristor Bridge (bridge 2) in converter station 2. e. Set three meters to measure the active power [PQS3 (E3,I3) 3~], reactive power [PQS3 (E3,I3) 3~] and displacement power factor [PF (E3, I3) 3~] at the ac side of the three-phase thyristor bridge (bridge 2) in converter station 2. 19. Open the Data Table window and set the table to record the firing angles of Thyristor Bridge 1 and 2, the dc line current and voltage, the active power, the reactive power, the line to line voltage E 1-2 and DPF in each converter station.
