to make their goals a reality. The temperance movement began in the 1830’s with a party being assembled in 1869. The party, called the National Prohibition Party, set up meetings and conventions to help gain more supporters. In 1893, the Anti-Saloon League was created, and this group went across the country lobbying for a ban on alcohol. In 1919, the 18th Amendment was ratified banned alcohol from the United States, a huge victory for the temperance movement. Even though the 18th Amendment was eventually repealed, the temperance movement was still able to bring about change using their rights to assemble, petition, and associate.
