The approaches discussed by the speakers in the seminar helped create a common knowledge base for the innovation imperative in a global context in interaction with design and leadership. The seminar was conducted in Mumbai as well as Bengaluru, and was very well attended by senior-level executives from Indian companies. The faculties and students of WeSchool also benefited from the seminar, seeing some of the possibilities that exist in the area of innovation, especially in the Indian environment. 27 29 August 2008: The Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) Conference The Association of Indian Management Schools a body that represents around 3,000 business schools in India, including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indian School of Business (ISB) and other leading business schools (Management Development Institute, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, etc.) elected our Director, Professor Dr Uday 118 New Educational Perspectives for Designers and Managers Salunkhe (co-author of this chapter) as their President in 2007. This gave us the opportunity to inform other management education institutions about the concept of design thinking in management education. Dr Salunkhe included Grow by Design as a key agenda topic for the AIMS conference in 2007, while the main theme at the August 2008 conference was Nurturing Thought Leadership through Management Education . The sub-themes at the 2008 conference were: 1. India The Knowledge Capital 2. Leadership Development at the Grass Root Level 3. The Innovation Imperative Expectations from B-Schools 4. B-Labs Incubating the Enterprise of the Future 5. E cology for Thought Leadership 6. Responsible Leadership 7. V oice of the Customer 8. New Tools in Management The themes for speaker sessions were such that designers were brought to the forefront as speakers in a management forum, which greatly assisted the dissemination of design thinking in management education through out the country. 20 June 2009: Innovation Roundtable The innovation roundtable was organized by We School for top-level executives from industry to explain to them the benefits of design thinking in management and to promote innovative thinking in future managers.
