The ANA provides many certifications that allow one to advance their nursing practice, including certifications in informatics, mental health, etc. Furthermore, they provide books, teaching resources, scholarships, and conference opportunities as well to all help maintain and advance my professional practice. C3. Within the state of Virginia, a nursing license must be renewed every two years by the last day of your birth month and is done so online. The renewal fee is $140 with an additional $50 due if late. There is a $225 fee if a license is to be reinstated, which costs $300 if it is revoked. Additionally, 30 hours of continuing education are required, or 15 hours of continuing education along with 640 active practice hours every two years (Virginia Board of Nursing, 2019). C3a.
PROFESSIONAL ROLES & VALUES: TASK 1 7 Failure to maintain license requirements in the state of Virginia leads to immediate suspension of said nursing license until one can furnish requested information and the appropriate renewal/late fees. Those that continue to practice without a license are subject to a Class 1 misdemeanor (Virginia Board of Nursing, 2019). C4. There are currently 34 states that are considered compact states where nurses are allowed to carry one license, but practice in multiple states. The differences in requirements are that you must live in a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) state and declare an NLC state as your primary residency in order to apply (“NURSING LICENSURE COMPACT”, 2018). D. The Food and Drug Administration is a federal agency which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services that controls and oversees food safety, medications, supplements, medical devices, ration-emitting products, vaccines, blood and biologics, animal food and veterinary products, cosmetics, and tobacco products ( U S Food and Drug Administration, 2019) . Thus, the FDA functions to promote public health and to protect the general public. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is also part of the Department of Health and Human Services, but it oversees the Medicare program and works with individual states in administering Medicaid and the CHIP program ( Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 2019) . So, while the FDA’s function is to regulate food and drugs, the CMS’ function is to regulate public health insurance for those who do not have access to private health care. D1.
