* Snow and Schudson argue that because the world is distorted and ambiguous, the news media project a series of events as a narrative. They highlight what they believe people want to hear. Framing as Genre Conventions The genre will frame how we will understand the content of a show, if something is presented as a comedy, we will be looking for things that are funny. Genre conventions influence how writers and producers “create” their content, writers shape their creations after the pre- conceived genre conventions. Marshall McLuhan - “The medium is the message” From the medium, we can a certain experience that applies to what we are doing. Watching a TV show with friends and family is entirely different that reading a book in solitude. With one you can laugh out loud and figure out the plot together in a communal experience, but a book is a much more solo experience. Revision 2: Meaning is created by the audience themselves in the act of reception. In some way there is no definitive meaning, but it is developed by the receivers. “The meaning of the text are not what the author intended or wished to be put into it, but what the reader finds.” - Fiske Roland Barthes * Denotation – newscaster says: “A railway strike will take place tommorow.” This is a literal statement. * Connotation – viewer hears: “Railway workers are lazy and are going to destroy the economy.”

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
