Overview of Technologies That Are Used to Automate a Business Process Siebel Workflow brings together Workflow Processes and other repository configuration objects, including the Workflow Policies module, to establish a comprehensive workflow design. Some of the technologies for automating a business process that are available to a Siebel application are described briefly in this topic. While each of these technologies provide specific functionality to automate a business process in the Siebel application, Workflow Processes can orchestrate many of the services that the technologies perform. A workflow process orchestrates services by directly calling each technology, or by interacting with other technologies through the Siebel event model.

Overview of Siebel Workflow About Siebel Workflow Siebel Business Process Framework: Workflow Guide Version 8.1, Rev A 17 Table 2 describes automation technologies. Table 2. Automation Technologies Automation Technology Description Workflow Process Allows you to define business processes for your company by using a familiar flowcharting interface. Consists of one or more process steps, such as a start step, subprocess step, decision point, and task. Workflow Processes is the key technology behind building business processes in the Siebel application. Workflow Policy Allows you to define workflow policy conditions and actions that can start a workflow process. If workflow policy conditions are met, then the policy action executes the relevant workflow process. A workflow policy generates an event based on a database operation. A workflow policy is effective for performing a simple action, such as sending email, or generating an activity or assignment. Siebel Task UI Allows you to define a user interface with multiple step, interactive operations that can include branching and decision logic to guide an end user through Siebel Task UI execution. Allows navigation backward and forward within task UI execution, and allows a task UI to pause and resume. For more information, see Siebel Business Process Framework: Task UI Guide . Assignment Manager Expresses rules to assign records to people. Allows assignment of records based on skill, workload, and availability. Supports ownership transition within a business process. For more information, see Siebel Assignment Manager Administration Guide . SmartScript Guides the end user through data entry activities. Effective for call scripting and includes basic support for transaction level commits. For more information, see Siebel SmartScript Administration Guide . Activity Template Provides a predefined series of steps to be performed. Effective for handling asynchronous and offline work. For more information on Activity Template, see Siebel Applications Administration Guide .
