this, or in some cases do it on purpose. Some students are not respectful and do not wait their
turn to talk in classes. Informal norms, such as this should not be broken, even though they do
not have severe consequences.
Dirty looks, harsh suggestions, and annoyance are all results of
breaking informal norms, even though they do not necessarily have written consequences.
This
experiment also showed an example of a folkway. It is a norm that governs everyday behavior.

Not talking over someone is a proper behavior, that makes classes run smoothly. The results of
the experiment were expected and unexpected. The teachers expressing the fact they would like
to wait to the end of a lecture was already expected, however, the students telling me to stop was
not. My peers expressing their frustration shows they do not appreciate when informal norms are
broken, just like adults do not. The feeling of disappointment in myself was also not expected.
When I got harsh looks from my teachers and peers it made me disappointed in myself. Informal
norms, just like formal norms, are the reason society works so well together and they should not
be willingly broken.
