The incidence of childhood dental cavities is most prevalent in the 2-5 year olds with a gradual increase in those 2-11 years old over the past ten years. According to The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, 27.90% of 2-5 year olds and 51.17% of 6-11 year olds have dental caries (National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, 2014). The community of Sentinel City has responded by the increase in the number of Dental Hygiene Clinics by a third, and Pediatric Oral Surgery by 50% over the past five years. 80% of the children being seen are between the ages of four and six. A majority of the people with Vision Insurance are not completing their preventive eye exams every two years. According to the statistics, the number of citizens with significant eye disease has remained steady in the past ten years. Specialty vision clinics have declined over the past ten years, the ratio of Ophthalmologists, Neurological Ophthalmologists, and Vision

According to Office of Disease Prevention and Health Improvement, the eyes are often disregarded but are important to one’s overall health. Some vision impairments are preventable and routine exams can lead to early detection and treatment of common vision problems and eye diseases including glaucoma, cataracts and age related macular degeneration. Promoting healthy vision can keep people safe and should be considered through one’s lifespan (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion [ODPHP], 2016). In Sentinel City 24% of the population are smokers. According to the CDC in 2015, about 15.1% of adults 18 or older currently smoke cigarettes. Cigarettes smoking is the primary cause of preventable disease and death in the United States and contributes to more than 480,000 deaths each year, or 1 in 5 deaths (CDC, 2106). Additionally, The CDC contends that state spending on tobacco prevention and control does not meet their recommend levels. Three Key Problems in Sentinel City The three most significant health concerns I would like to focus on is the availability of healthcare for the uninsured, injury and violence prevention, and substance abuse. The National percentage of people without health insurance is 10.5% (U.S. Census Bureau, 2016). In Industrial Heights, 37.5% are without health insurance, and Casper Heights 22.7% are also without. While only 0.7% in Nightingale Square and 1.5% in Acer Tech. One of the goals of Healthy People 2020 is “access to comprehensive, quality healthcare services in order to promote and maintain health, reduce unnecessary disability and premature death” (ODPHP, 2016). High costs of healthcare services and healthcare insurance combined with the high cost of living make it almost impossible for a large number in our society to reach health equity. People can’t afford
