TRANSGENDER INEQUALITY IN TODAY’S SOCIETY 4 MacDonald, A. (2018) Transforming Gender, CBC retrieved fromHumanitiesTransgender inequality is also notable through the humanities. Film and television have recently started to address the notable inequality in representation, by vowing to including more transgender characters and in turn, transgender actors and actresses to portray them (Deerwester, 2018). This is greatly needed as there is currently very little representation for the transgender community in film and television. Not only is there a lack of representation with having so few transgender characters in film and television , there is a misrepresentation by having cisgender thespians portray the few characters that do exist. This rivals in comparison to the levels of discrimination seen when Hollywood would have a white actor play a black character in film.Other areas of the humanities where inequality exist is in the different cultural and religious sects, for example. In some cultures and religious sects, transgender individuals are shun and / or attacked. Anti-trans violence and inequality occurs frequently, with people hiding behind “freedom of religion” propaganda and using religion to excuse the mistreatment of transgender people. Surprisingly or maybe not so surprisingly this inequality is seen more in western civilization more so than Eastern civilization (David, 2018). Recently, archeologist discovered that artifacts buried in burial grounds in Iran, indicated the gender or sex of the persons buried. Some graves contained artifacts associated with women, some contained artifactsassociated with men and a third grouping had artifacts that typically represented both men and woman indicating the acknowledgement and respect for transgender individuals.
