Annual Report of the Botanical Society of America Conservation Committee August 6, 2000 The mandate of the BSA Conservation Committee is to: "accumulate information on environmental problems, disseminate such information to the membership at its discretion, and bring matters of significance to the attention of the Council." Over the past year, the Conservation Committee has endeavored to address these goals through increased contacts with other conservation groups, monitoring of activities that pertain to the study of plant conservation, and evaluation of best strategies for future efforts. 1) Collaboration with other conservation groups to further the protection and conservation of rare and endangered plants. We have developed stronger ties with the Plants Program at the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) through the Species Survival Commission and several plant specialist groups of the IUCN-SSC. Discussions with Dr. Wendy Strahm, Plants Officer of the SSC, were held during the International Botanical Congress to assess how the BSA conservation committee could contribute to the conservation of plant resources. IUCN has recently expanded their plants office staff and hopes to increase collaboration and communication among groups concerned with plant conservation. Internationally, plants have not received the level of attention they have been given in the United States. Approximately 40% of the federally listed endangered species in the US are plants while globally the IUCN Red List contains only about 10% plants.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
