the symbol of God’s mercy and grace while Utnapishtism is warned by Ea in a dream that he must be the one to help keep humans alive. In the story of Gilgamesh, the gods cry and that is what creates this massive flood. The rain last for only 6 days and 6 nights and the boat stayed on the mountain for 7 days. The rain last for 40 days and 40 nights in the book of Genesis. The ark landed and was on the mountain for approximately two and a half more months. Both of the stories share the same outline there’s just different small details.

Carr2 In each of the stories, the man in charge sends out birds in order to find land. Each bird has its own special meaning Utnapishtism sent out three while Noah only sends out two. Both also show perseverance to the gods and they are rewarded. At the end of each flood, there’s a sign given that shows the gods/God will not destroy the Earth with a flood again. When looking at the two different versions of the flood story you will find many similarities and differences. Yet and still the main reason for each story are quite alike. All cultures develop overtime and its been said that the Genesis flood comes from Gilgamesh, just a different version.
