2.0PART ACLIMATE CHANGEThe world now faces amongst the complex and significant issue it has ever todeal with: climate change. In accordance toTheIntergovernmental Panel on ClimateChange(IPCC),climate change refers to a changein the state of theclimatethat canbe identified (e.g. using statistical tests) by changes in the mean and/or the variabilityof its properties, and that persists for an extended period, typically decades or longer. This is a reality that is happening now and we witnessed its impact across the globe. The scientific evidence is just unequivocal. The climate change is creating complex, interlinked risks to thenatural, social and economic systems on which we all depend.Unfortunately, the problem is getting worst and drastic measures need to be taken toresolve it.You cannot really do anything on a problem that you do not understand, let aloneknow how to solve. Therefore, this is among the aims topic to be chosen. There is aneed to highlight this ‘unpleasant’ subject that casts a shadow across ordinary life. It hasalready caused changes for us. For instance, a sea-level rise that increases the risk oferosion and flood. Heatwave andheavy rainstorms are also affecting infrastructureslike roads, airports, port facilities, and energy infrastructure.By highlighting this topic, it will provide a glimpse of how important to understand theactions and impact raising from it.This will also help to inculcate awareness on climatechange and developing the perception that, it is something worth caring about andactions are worth being taken. Most prominently, to change the mentality among usthat ‘there is nothing much that can be done’.Individual efforts and engagement alsocan contribute to reduceand possibly stop climate change.Due to climate change’s unavoidable consequences, actions can still be taken tominimize it.If there are no changes in theglobal fossil fuel-burning ways, wearebound toface mass extinction events within the next few decades. Thus, as we areengaging to understand the risks involving climate change, it will lead us in preparingourselves on the possible consequences as mentioned earlier. This will also help inadapting and preparing emergency reserves and resilience locally and globally.4
