analyzed making it likely that the model fit statistics using the x 2 may not be an accurate measure of fit. Construct reliabilities are also reported in Table II. Cronbach’s a was used to test internal consistency of the constructs. All of the measures displayed acceptable levels of internal consistency. The measure of shopping sophistication had an alpha of 0.92. Perceived sophistication 1 – Overall, I believe my/our household acted in a very sophisticated manner throughout the entire home shopping effort 2 – Overall, I believe my/our household carried out the home purchase process in a very systematic manner 3 – Overall, I believe my/our home purchase effort was very consistent with wise purchase practice 4 – Overall, I believe my/our household acted in a very thoughtful manner throughout the home purchase process 5 – Overall, I believe my/our household acted in a very prudent manner throughout the home shopping effort 6 – Overall, I believe my/our household displayed a high degree of shopping competence throughout the home shopping effort 7 – Overall, I believe my/our home shopping effort was very thorough Control 1 – I felt I had control during the purchase of my/our house 2 – I felt I had authority to make decisions during the home purchase process 3 – I had the power to make changes during the home purchase process Fairness 1 – I feel like I/we was/were treated fairly during the home purchase process 2 – I feel like the condition of my/our house was accurately/fairly represented to me 3 – I feel like I/we got exactly what we paid for Dissonance 1 – After the decision to buy my/our house, I began to have serious doubts about whether I made the right decision 2 – After the decision to buy my/our house, I felt the urge to back out of the deal. 3 – After the decision to buy my/our home, I spent a lot of time convincing myself that I/we made the right purchase decision 4 – After the decision to buy my/our home, I found myself looking for information to confirm that I made the right decision 5 – After the decision to buy my/our home, I felt very anxious about my/our purchase decision Satisfaction 1 – I am very satisfied with the quality of my/our home 2 – I am satisfied with the purchase of my/our home 3 – If I had to do it all over again, I would purchase the same house 4 – I am very confident that I/we made the right decision 5 – I am convinced I/we made the right decision to buy the house Table I. The perceived control measure had an alpha of 0.81, while the fairness measure displayed good internal consistency with an alpha of 0.79. Finally, both the measure of cognitive dissonance and purchase satisfaction contained strong internal consistency with alphas of 0.89 and 0.92, respectively. All the measures included in the study contained a ’s above the 0.70 threshold recommended by Nunnally (1978), thus, demonstrating good reliability.
