sued for violating the patient’s HIPPA rights – the situation could have been much worse. Leadership Qualities Time management, good communication, confidence, and patience are important leadership skills in nursing practice. As a practicing nurse, I strive to incorporate these traits in my daily work within my nursing and interdisciplinary teams. I employ good communication skills when outlining care plans for patients and their families to ensure they understand and feel involved in caring to their loved ones (American Nurses Association, 2015). NURSING PRACTICE 10 communication permeates all scopes of nursing and is the key to good bedside reporting and interaction with members of various nursing teams. Confidence has been an indispensible part of my nursing practice and I approach my patients’ confidently besides showing confidence when carrying out procedures like catheter or IV insertions. Self-confidence in nursing eases tensions between nurses and patients thus helping in building trust. What is more, confidence in daily interactions with other colleagues implies that one is sure about themselves and their actions in dispensing care. Additionally, patience is essential in care, especially during interactions with patients. Most patients show frustrations whenever their conditions do not improve while others avoid medication once they realize their diseases are incurable. However, with patience, a nurse can help the patient make critical decisions that may improve their wellbeing in the end. A large number of nurses often find it frustrating when patients are “wishy-washy” about upcoming procedures. Good practice demands that a nurse take times and address any concerns a patient may have to ensure they get the best care possible – showing patience helps build rapport and trust ( Noddings, 2018). Good time management is the other quality that a good leader at the bedside must have. It is important for a nurse to take on projects they can handle and with good time management skills, a nurse is able to avoid stress and handle patients’ needs competently. My hospital has a culture that inspires decision-making, nursing leadership, and professional development by incorporating excellent care with a positive work environment. At the start of every shift, nurses, physicians, therapists, and managers meet and discuss all patients’ care plans and examine any issues that may impede the provision of quality care. This strategy has been the key to stability at the hospital and proven to be an efficient structure in maintaining high satisfactions scores among patients who visit the institution.
