P a g e | 23 Activity 5C Estimated Time 15 Minutes Objective To provide you with an opportunity to provide encouragement when the person takes initiative in learning situations. Activity Complete the following individually or in a group (as applicable to the specific activity and the assessment environment): 1. Give an example of how you would recognise the client taking initiative in their learning and explain how you would encourage and acknowledge their behaviour. All answers will vary. For example: You are cooking a steak dinner with a client. You pour the sauce into serving pots and place the dirty pan back on the hob. The client grabs the pan and says “I’ll just rinse this pan so that the sauce doesn’t dry on” and proceeds to rinse all of the sauce out of the pan. The client took the initiative by cleaning the pan now, rather than having a much harder job later on. You should recognise this and provide positive feedback, showing the client that you noticed their behaviour and that you are pleased. “Hey, that’s great! Well done! That’s a brilliant idea, thank you.”

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
